Biographies of Contributors

Marcia Birken, Professor of Mathematics (College  of Science) and Anne Coon, Professor of Language and Literature (College of Liberal Arts)
at Rochester Institute of Technology have collaborated since 1983 on critical thinking and linkages between literature and mathematics.
They have given conference and workshop presentations, published articles, and co-authored a chapter in The Critical Writing Workshop
(Heinemann, Boynton/Cook). Birken and Coon also work professionally in their own fields: Coon's interests include writing and teaching
poetry, 19th century literature, and oral narrative; Birken's professional interests include creating web-based resources for calculus, faculty training in new educational media, and studying Galapagos Islands sea-birds.
