Deborah Newton is an active performance practitioner and lecturer in contemporary arts at The Arden School of Theatre, Manchester, UK. Her current doctoral research into contemporary performance centres on attempting to understand what performance achieves for its participants and what the role of the audience is in contemporary performance. As an emerging artist, she continues to be actively involved in performance-making both in this country and abroad.  She is a regular contributor to national and international conferences and has published academic papers in national and international peer reviewed journals.
