Ioan Williams is Professor and Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies, University of Wales Aberystwyth. He is is currently working on a book length study of the various forms of Welsh language theatre which have developed over the last century. His study will be published, in Welsh, by the University of Wales Press, in 2004/5. This work has grown out of a shorter entry on the subject of Welsh language theatres to be published in Cambridge History of British Theatre, edited by Baz Kershaw. Other current research interests include the aesthetics of theatre. Professor Williams has in hand a long term project to produce an English language study of the Eighteenth/Nineteenth Century Welsh language theatre of the "anterliwt" from a formal perspective.
