James McNicholas is a Lecturer in Performance at Sheffield Hallam University. Most recently, he has been developing a psychophysical and imagination-based approach to actor training, performing and directing under 'Theatre of Radiance'; an approach to training, performing and directing that is inspired by training and experience in a variety of psychophysical training and performance practices. The key concepts and practices of the training are centred around imagination, playfulness and radiation and are largely influenced by study in Kudiyattam acting under UK practitioner-researcher Dr Arya Madhavan, and also in yogic, tantric and vedantic philosophies and psychophysical practices.
