Maya Nanitchkova Öztürk combines extensive professional practice as architect and urban designer, and as academician. She obtained her Bachelor of Architecture at the Higher Institute for Architecture and Construction, Sofia, Bulgaria, and her Master and Ph.D. in Architecture at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. Since 1990 she has been working at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey as a full time lecturer, design studio instructor, and academic supervisor at the graduate level (MFA), moving to the Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus in 2012. Along with design education, her academic work is on theory of architectural space, social and spatial practices, experience, and consciousness, focusing on space-body relationships. Her research on theatre space has been published as chapters in books, and as articles in ISI and other refereed journals, the most recent one being CTR 20:3.
