Shilpa Venkatachalam has submitted her doctoral thesis in Phenomenology and Modern Literature. She is currently teaching in the Department of Critical Theory and Cultural Studies and also teaches at the English Department at Nottingham Trent University. Her research interests include Phenomenology, Consciousness Studies, Modernism, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Critical theory and Cultural studies. She is currently also co-editing a two volume book titled Time and Memory in Narrative with Dr. Karl Simms from the University of Liverpool. Her article on “Technology and the Contemplation of Art” has been published in the Journal of Visual Art Practise (JVAP). (2004). Her forthcoming publications include “Understanding Consciousness and the Self in Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness within the Heideggerean Categories of the Ontical and the Ontological” in Time and Memory, Vol, I , “Being and Consciousness in Virginia Woolf’s The Waves and Phenomenology in the Journal of Philosophy: An Interdisciplinary Enquiry and “Literature, Consciousness and the Self”. She is also currently in talks with Dr John William Phillips on a book project in Phenomenology.  Shilpa was previously Visiting Researcher in the Philosophy Department at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, where she worked under Distinguished Professor Don Ihde.
