Ioana Sion studied English and Romance languages at the
University of Vienna and Bucharest. Trained as a language teacher, translator
and interpreter, she worked on drama and film translation, adaptation and
subtitling for various TV stations in Europe. She is now working in Canada as a
database specialist, teaching assistant and co-editor of Transverse, a
peer-reviewed journal of comparative literature. She has several publications on
the theatre of Jean Cocteau, Samuel Beckett, Eugène Ionesco, Paul Claudel, and
most recently a collection of essays on theatre and the dramatic arts Precarious
Ontologies (Mediauno, 2005). She is now finishing a PhD in comparative
literature at the University of Toronto with a dissertation on descensus
ad inferos in modern French and Italian drama.
