Phillip Zarrilli is Professor Emeritus at the University of Exeter School of Drama and Music. He was previously Director of the Asian/Experimental Theatre Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has also taught at New York University, Northwestern, and UCLA. He is an internationally recognized performer trainer and director, with recent productions of Beckett plays in Austria and Los Angeles. He utilizes Asian martial/meditation arts as a psychophysical base in training performers at his private studio and in workshops in a variety of international settings including Gardzinice Theatre (Poland), Passe Partout (Netherlands), Centre for Performance Research (Wales), Esalen Institute, etc. His books include (editor) ACTING RECONSIDERED (Routledge, 1995), WHEN THE BODY BECOMES ALL EYES (Oxford University Press 1998), and KATHAKALI DANCE-DRAMA: WHERE GODS AND DEMONS COME TO PLAYS (Routledge, 2000).
