on a day when the I Ching three times speaks
about oppression and the need to be cheerful
Monty Python’s Spamalot comes to town
singing and whistling “Always look on
the bright side of life” even when it’s shitty
and for two hours plus it’s hard not to
get the message because this triple
A touring company is surely ready
for the big show. Their delivery is joy
through precision and timing
The Lady of the Lake, Arthur and crew
melts this already too wintery audience
and we are grateful and sunny
at intermission and later after the show
people leave whistling in the underpass
back to the parkade and no one gets irritated
at the bumper to bumper wait because time is
still rushing and lifting us above the cold
that also belongs to life. For a respite
Monty Python has aligned our perspective
with the Tao and the Stoics
