PINK

I’m writing with a pink pencil

because I’m finally on a plane

on my way back to Winnipeg

and the attendant has just given me a can

of sparkling water

The hospital my mother was in

the past few days was gray concrete

on the outside and on the inside

an assortment of candy, designed

by the late artist Poul Gernes

(whose daughter is a poet)

in the late 60s, early 70s.  His idea was

that sparky hospital walls would enhance healing.

Things there arte pretty run down now

but I’m hoping for the best

Louisiana, the museum of modern art

north of Copenhagen, is running an exhibition

on Colour in Art, including Kandinsky

Nolde, Matisse,  Miro, Picasso…

not to forget a couple of Calder’s mobiles

because there’s a balance that must be heeded

between something there and something gone

and in how this airplane stays aloft
